The Twelve Days of Christmas: Day Eight

Day Eight: “25th December” by Everything But the Girl

My grandfather died a year ago today. He loved to hear me play the piano. The music open on the piano is one of Chopin’s Nocturnes. Scribbled above the music is a phone number of an old high school friend. She’d moved and called me right before I went to Europe to give me her new number. We made plans to meet up after I returned.

She died while I was gone.

The song was very touching. I think I like it the best from your Twelve Days series so far. It taps in to those emotions that I think a lot of people can empathize with due to near unavoidable nostalgia during the holidays. I’m unquestionably one of these people this year around as well. I’m sorry for your losses. Remember and celebrate the good times with them, for our absent loved ones live on in that way.
