Long Absences and Short Walks

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

I haven’t been updating this as often as I’d like, but sometimes real life intervenes.

Earlier today, I took a walk ostensibly to enjoy the weather (it has been bitterly cold here this week, but today the chill lifted and the sun [o glorious sun! there is a reason I live in Florida] came out from behind the clouds) and brought my camera along.

It was exactly midday, so the light wasn’t ideal, but I ended up with some shots I like. This one took me quite a few minutes of lying belly-down in wet grass while I waited for the light to be right.

The Eye Makeup Is a Little Much, Don’t You Think?

Immediately after I stood up, a lady approached me. Like a lot of people, she was enjoying the weather by taking a walk. She asked me if I’d been taking a picture of the tree behind me. I was really confused because I’d pretty obviously been lying on the ground with my camera pointed away from the tree.

I suppose she could sense my confusion, because she hastened to explain how she walks down that particular street almost every day, and she sees figures in the trees, and she thought that maybe I could see them too and was trying to photograph them (maybe the figures can only be photographed backwards?).

The funny thing was that I really COULD see a figure in the tree after she pointed it out to me. Somehow the photo didn’t quite turn out, but my track record for attracting “characters” remains intact.

Some other shots from today (sorry about the repetitive processing [and subject matter], but these were all done in the short time I had before going to work):
