All-Night Emo! #311
Friday, April 4th, 2008My friend Courtney had to drive home tonight after she got off work at 1am, so in a bid to make sure she wasn’t sleepy, I offered to buy an iced coffee at 9pm. Of course I had one myself. And that’s how I’m awake at 5:40am.
I found two songs tonight that I’d had for a while and just hadn’t listened to. Since I didn’t have much else to do, I decided to do a song-inspired 365 shot. Unfortunately, I couldn’t decide which song I liked better. I’d already told Jens that he was going to figure somehow in my self-portrait for the day, so hopefully he’ll decide for me.
First, we have Sufjan Stevens’ “To Be Alone With You,” a haunting song bordering on the macabre. It’s very nearly as good as “Sister Winter,” but without the redemptive ending. It inspired this shot:
Next, we have Landon Pigg’s “Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop.” While I realize it might have been more appropriate to take this photo at an actual coffeeshop, I’ve gotten in trouble for taking photos at Starbucks before, and I can’t always stomach the ultra-trendy hipsters at Maude’s, so I tried to re-create the coffeeshop vibe in my living room. I’m sure my neighbors appreciated me moving furniture around at 5am…
