My New Hometown

Inspired partly by Greg Turner‘s fantastic “This Is My Hometown” series and by J-Fin’s mother Dorothy chiding me for not posting enough photos of where I live, I made a point to bring my camera with me while I went to the grocery store today. I didn’t even go the scenic route – just the fastest way :)

From the grocery store, I take a dirt path that winds through some fields and up a hill.

The path cuts through fields of wheat (I think)…

The left side has a haphazard fence, but the right side is wide-open, all the way to the fields behind it.

Parts of the fence are a bit wonky:

At the top of the fence is a small graveyard, which I didn’t take photos of because there was someone visiting and I didn’t want to disturb them. Then it’s down the hill and on to the roads.

If you look very closely at the picture above, you’ll see a white building where the road ends. You can either turn left or right. Here’s a close-up of that building:

I turn left at the this building. Usually, I go behind it and walk along a stream that cuts through the town, but today I stayed on the streets (makes for better photos, like these older-style shutters found here:).

I’m now only a few blocks from home. This road is a bit more narrow…

…but it has an apothecary (pharmacy) and a bakery…

…and even an Italian restaurant!

And finally, a little piece of traditional architecture:

I hope you enjoyed the tour!
