A Scenic World

First, yewknee has started the Summer Mix Series! This is one of those things I look forward to all year. Go snag some awesome music!

I “celebrated” the July 4th holiday by consuming a huge chunk of watermelon. =)

I’m starting the 365 project again, where I take a self-portrait every day. I have a feeling that this is going to be a year I might want to remember when I’m older.

One year from now, I hope to have moved to Germany to be with Jens, found out that Jens isn’t a psycho killer, learned how to speak a bit of German, and figured out what I want to do with my life.

You know what sucks?

The fact that I only left work because it had FINALLY stopped raining long enough for me to do my laundry, and since I don’t have any daylight hours where I’m not scheduled to work over the next few days and I’m out of work clothes because I’ve already worked so much the past week or so that I HAVE to do laundry, and my laundry place is only open during daylight hours, so it was now or never, so I did it.

My laundry is done, and it was actually enjoyable for the following reasons:

1) Yewknee posted his newest mix, Solipsistic Solstice, and I listened to it three times while I was washing and drying. It. Is. Awesome. Here’s my favorite song:

2) “Weapons” by Son Lux

3) Me and the K200D had some fun!

4) J-fin called and reminded me that the finale of Top Chef is tonight, whoo-hoo! I’m going over to her house in 20 minutes :)

5) I got in my new pack of Moo cards, and I think I did a much better job choosing photos and cropping than I did last time. Of course, I also had a lot more photos to choose from :)

I got sick of doing the black-and-white-self-portrait-thing.

My friend Courtney had to drive home tonight after she got off work at 1am, so in a bid to make sure she wasn’t sleepy, I offered to buy an iced coffee at 9pm. Of course I had one myself. And that’s how I’m awake at 5:40am.

I found two songs tonight that I’d had for a while and just hadn’t listened to. Since I didn’t have much else to do, I decided to do a song-inspired 365 shot. Unfortunately, I couldn’t decide which song I liked better. I’d already told Jens that he was going to figure somehow in my self-portrait for the day, so hopefully he’ll decide for me.

First, we have Sufjan Stevens’ “To Be Alone With You,” a haunting song bordering on the macabre. It’s very nearly as good as “Sister Winter,” but without the redemptive ending. It inspired this shot:

Next, we have Landon Pigg’s “Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop.” While I realize it might have been more appropriate to take this photo at an actual coffeeshop, I’ve gotten in trouble for taking photos at Starbucks before, and I can’t always stomach the ultra-trendy hipsters at Maude’s, so I tried to re-create the coffeeshop vibe in my living room. I’m sure my neighbors appreciated me moving furniture around at 5am…
